These terms apply when you use Firelog. They are short and written to be read, because terms nobody reads protect nobody. Using Firelog means you accept them; if you do not, please do not use it.
The short version.
Firelog is free during its beta and runs in your browser. It reads statements you already have — it is not connected to your bank and never moves money. It can be wrong, so check anything that matters against your own records. Your data lives in your browser and only you can back it up. Only share statements that are yours to share.
Firelog reads Singapore bank and credit-card statement PDFs that you already have, parses them inside your browser, and shows you a reconciled picture of the transactions in them.
To be explicit about what it is not:
Firelog is free to use while it is in beta. It is also unfinished: features change, formats that worked may break while a parser is improved, and the service may be unavailable or discontinued. There is no uptime commitment and no support commitment, though we do read hello@firelog.sg.
Paid features are planned. Firelog is free during the beta, not free forever, and using it now does not entitle you to future features at no cost. Prices and the terms attached to them will be published before they apply to anyone, so nothing you use today starts costing money without you being told first and choosing.
Firelog checks its own work: every statement is reconciled against the totals and carried-forward balance printed on it, and where the arithmetic does not agree the app tells you rather than quietly showing a wrong number. That is a real control and it catches real mistakes.
It is not a guarantee. Statement layouts vary, parsers misread things, and a transaction can be categorised in a way you would disagree with. Before you rely on anything Firelog shows you — for a tax filing, a loan application, a dispute with your bank, or any decision that matters — check it against the statements and your bank's own records. Those are the authoritative source; Firelog is a reading of them.
What you import stays in your browser's private storage for this site. We hold no copy — that is the point of the design, and it has a consequence worth being blunt about: if you clear your browser data, use a different browser or device, or your device fails, that data is gone and we cannot restore it.
Firelog provides a Download backup button for exactly this reason. Use it. How and where you keep those backups is up to you.
When you use Firelog, you agree that you will not:
We may block access that is damaging the service or putting other people's data at risk. Since there are no accounts, in practice this means rate limits and, if necessary, withdrawing the service.
Your statements and the data derived from them are yours. We claim no rights over them. Where you choose to send us a statement or contribute transaction descriptions, you give us permission to use them for the stated purpose — improving Firelog's parsing and categorisation — on the terms in the privacy notice, including how long they are kept.
The Firelog name, the site and the software remain ours.
Firelog is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those that cannot be excluded by law. We do not warrant that it will be accurate, uninterrupted, or fit for a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss of data. Where we are liable, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the amount you have paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim — which, during the free beta, is nothing.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for death or personal injury caused by negligence. If any part of this section is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
A note on why this section is short rather than sweeping: an exclusion clause has to be reasonable to be enforceable under Singapore's Unfair Contract Terms Act, and whether something was supplied free of charge counts towards that. Firelog is free during the beta, holds none of your data, and tells you above to check its output before relying on it — so the fair position and the defensible one are the same position, and neither needs padding. Once there is a paid tier, the cap scales with what that customer actually paid.
You can stop using Firelog at any time; clearing your browser data for this site removes what is stored locally. We may change or discontinue the service, and we will say so on this site if it is going away rather than letting it quietly stop working.
If these terms change materially we will update the date at the top and note the change on the site. Continuing to use Firelog after that means accepting the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction. If something has gone wrong, please email hello@firelog.sg first — most things are a misunderstanding or a bug, and both are quicker to fix than to litigate.
